Hunter x Hunter, one of the longest-running anime and manga series of all time, is literally riding the wave. Hunter x Hunter has become a top franchise since its 1998 debut and following this, the manga was turned into an anime many times. As predicted, the anime was a huge success and is still going strong with some incredible action.
Hunter x Hunter, on the other hand, has many anime adaptations and a backlog of OVAs and feature films to catch up on, making the series a little overwhelming for those hoping to appreciate it. Hunter x Hunter Series Watch Order
The Hunter x Hunter manga series has been adapted into two anime adaptations: a 1999 version and a more current and ongoing 2011 version. The 1999 version has 92 episodes (including the OVAs), whereas the 2011 adaptation contains 148 episodes.
I would typically recommend starting with the 1999 adaption and working your way up to the 2011 remake, which is essentially a reboot of some sort. The earlier version's fillers are rather amusing, and the anime as a whole has a more serious tone than the current version; nevertheless, the 2011 adaptation is superior in terms of animation, has practically no fillers, and includes two extra arcs, one of which is regarded to be the best. Hunter x Hunter Series (Both 1999 and 2011)
The story begins with a little kid named Gon Freecss discovering that his presumed-dead father is actually alive and well. He discovers that his father, Ging, is a legendary "Hunter," a person who has distinguished themselves as a member of humanity's elite.
Even though Ging abandoned his kid to pursue his own goals, Gon becomes motivated to follow in his father's footsteps, pass the arduous "Hunter Examination," and eventually track down his father to become a Hunter in his own right and desire to see him one day.
1. Hunter Exam Arc
The Hunter Exam arc is the series's first plot arc. The manga's first 38 chapters, the 1999 anime adaptation's first 31 episodes, and the 2011 anime adaptation's first 21 episodes comprise the arc. Applicants from all around the world take the Hunter Exam to become Professional Hunters during this arc. This arc also introduces the series' central characters.
The adventure begins with Gon through a variety of unusual tasks to become a Hunter, including navigating a dangerous jungle, hunting other candidates, killing a wild boar, running an extremely long subterranean marathon, and cooking sushi. Gon meets and befriends three of the hopefuls during the Hunter Exam: Kurapika, Killua, and Leorio. As one of the candidates, the series's first enemy is also introduced.
Hisoka is a sophisticated antagonist who wields playing cards as weapons and regards Gon as an "unripe fruit" whom he will relish murdering once he matures enough to be a threat. Before the Hunter Exam is completed, Killua is confronted by his brother, Illumi, who forces him to return home before the exam is completed.
2. Heavens Arena Arc
The Heavens Arena story arc is the series' third (technically second) story arc. The manga's Chapters 44–63, the 1999 anime adaptation's Episodes 37–44, and the 2011 anime adaptation's Episodes 27–36 comprise the arc.
Gon and Killua travel to Heavens Arena, a 251-story structure where people engage in round-the-clock fighting competitions for cash. They encounter Kung-Fu instructor Wing here, who teaches them about Nen, a chip-like force capable of manifesting superhuman abilities.
He instructs a little boy named Zushi, who joins Gon and Killua to earn money and experience fighting in the competition. Hisoka is also competing. Gon eventually gets another chance to face Hisoka, this time to demonstrate how much he has progressed.
3. Phantom Troupe Arc
The Yorknew City arc (or "Phantom Troupe arc" in the Viz edition) is the series' fourth (technically third) story arc, focusing on Kurapika's participation with the Mafia to reclaim his clan's stolen Scarlet Eyes. Taking place mostly in Yorknew City, Kurapika's quest ultimately becomes entangled with the assassins of his clan and the famed Phantom Troupe, the target of his wrath.
The four central protagonists reconnect for the world's greatest auction in Yorknew City, a huge city. Gon, Killua, and Leorio experiment with various ways to get enough money to purchase Greed Island, a JoyStation Console video game that may aid Gon in locating his father.
Meanwhile, Kurapika works as a bodyguard for Neon Nostrade, a flesh collector and the daughter of the head of a Mafia family, to help him gain access to his clan's Scarlet Eyes, which are scheduled to be auctioned in the same city. The Phantom Troupe, a band of thieves responsible for the killing of Kurapika's clan, is also congregating in Yorknew City.
4. Greed Island Arc
Greed Island is the series' fifth (technically fourth) narrative arc. As the second-longest arc, it follows Gon and Killua as they traverse Greed Island, with the former continuing his hunt for Ging. Along the way, the two encounter another Nen instructor and find that a malevolent trio is murdering other players in an attempt to clear the game.
Gon, Killua, and Leorio reappear to assist Kurapika in her recuperation following the battle with the Phantom Troupe. Leorio and Kurapika depart once more, refocusing attention on Gon and Killua. Gon and Killua are allowed to join a squad recruited to play the game by billionaire Battera.
Biscuit Krueger, a 57-year-old lady who appears like a 12-year-old girl and is a master and experienced instructor of Nen, joins Gon and Killua and subsequently trains them in Nen. As the tale unfolds, a player dubbed the Bomber begins blowing up other players. Gon, Killua, and Biscuit band up with other players to eliminate the Bomber.
Additionally, the Phantom Troupe sails to Greed Island in search of a Nen-remover capable of removing the Nen blade placed on Chrollo Lucilfer by Kurapika to negate his powers.
5. Chimera Ant Arc
The Chimera Ant arc is the series' sixth (technically fifth) narrative arc, dubbed "Chimera Ants Arc" by Viz. The manga's storyline runs from Chapters 186 to 318. Due to the manga's erratic publication schedule, it was not animated in the first anime adaptation (from the 1999 anime version). The arc begins with Episode 76 and concludes with Episode 136 in the 2011 anime adaption.
Gon and Killua encounter Kite after they leave Greed Island. They've all been hired to look at an unusual insect leg that washed ashore on a beach. Genetic analysis reveals that the leg belongs to an exceptionally big Chimera Ant Queen that washed up on the coast of the NGL (Neo-Green Life).
Before Gon, Killua, and Kite come to stop her, the Chimera Ants proceed to wipe off the majority of the population and birth hundreds of progeny for the next generation.
6. Election Arc
The election arc, dubbed "Hunter Elections Arc" by Viz, is the series' seventh (technically sixth) plot arc, spanning chapters 319–339 of the manga. The arc was published following the 2011 anime adaptation's premiere. It begins with episode 137 and concludes with episode 148 in the 2011 anime adaptation (the final episode of the 2011 anime adaptation).
Netero, the Hunter chairman, has died during his fight with Meruem, the Chimera Ant King. A new Hunter chairman is required, and the Zodiacs convene to conduct a new election for the position of Hunter chairman. Ging Freecss, a Zodiac member, is in charge of the establishment.
Leorio reappears and swiftly establishes himself as a leading contender in the race. These events serve as a backdrop for Killua and his minions' efforts to resurrect a hospitalized Gon using Alluka Zoldyck's Nen ability. Illumi, helped by Hisoka, seeks to prevent Killua from using Alluka's powers owing to the possible hazards associated with doing so.

Hunter x Hunter Movies (2013)
The film chronology begins with a grown kid, Gon, discovering that his deceased father was not truly dead but was a legendary Hunter. Rather than feeling alone, Gon resolves to follow in his father's footsteps and become a competent Hunter himself. A Hunter's job is not easy, and Gon must pass a test to become an officer hunter. He makes friends along the way, and they should all assist one another in overcoming challenges.
7. Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge (2013)
Hunter Hunter: Phantom Rouge follows Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio as they face a dangerous man who was formerly a part of their biggest adversary, the criminal organization known as the Phantom Troupe.
Kurapika became a Hunter to avenge his clan's slaughter at the hands of the Class-A criminal gang Phantom Troupe for their unusual eyes. The Kurta clan's eyes become scarlet in moments of wrath or emotional excitement and are regarded as the world's most beautiful jewels.
Kurapika continues to follow the Phantom Troupe, but his "scarlet eyes" have been taken by an unknown party. Kurapika's life was spared thanks to the efforts of Gon, Killua, and Leorio. The Phantom Troupe, on the other hand, appears ahead of them and blocks their path. The actual identity of the individual sporting the No. 4 spider tattoo is going to be revealed.
8. Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission (2013)
Hunter Hunter: The Last Mission is the sequel to the Hunter Hunter manga series. In North America, the film was distributed on home video.
The Hunter Association's strongest Hunters were divided into "bright" and "dark" factions, and each followed its own course. The "evil" side continues its march toward slaughtering all Hunters! Killua is injured and Kurapika is on the verge of death following a violent attack by the "evil" side Hunters.
